Limassol authorities seek court order to evacuate dangerous apartment building
On Monday, May 18, the Limassol District Local Government Organization (EOA) will petition the Limassol District Court for an order to evacuate the Seagate apartment building located on Vasileos Georgiou A' Avenue in Germasogeia. The building has been officially deemed dangerous. This legal action follows the collapse of another apartment block in the same area on April 11, an incident that resulted in two fatalities. EOA President Giannis Tsouloftas explained that the delay since the initial April 20 evacuation deadline was due to the complexity of identifying and notifying a large number of apartment owners, a procedure the organization is undertaking for the first time. The EOA has previously identified 36 dangerous buildings across Limassol and placed warning signs on them. Meanwhile, the Limassol Police Criminal Investigation Department (TAE) has stated that the investigation into the fatal April 11 collapse is in its final stages. Once completed, the investigation file will be submitted to the Attorney General for further legal evaluation.
