Protest scheduled outside the Archbishopric of Cyprus in support of Tychikos
A peaceful protest is organized for Saturday, May 16, at 16:00 outside the Archbishopric of Cyprus in Nicosia. The participants are supporters of the former Metropolitan of Paphos, Tychikos, who has been removed from his position and placed on leave by the Church. The organizers are demanding the resignation of Archbishop Georgios and the reinstatement of Tychikos to the throne of Paphos. Additionally, they advocate for the preservation of the existing Church Charter. While the organizers emphasize that the demonstration is peaceful and independent of extremist groups, they state their intention to defend church order and unity. There is a discrepancy in terminology regarding the status of the former Metropolitan; supporters refer to him as the Metropolitan, implicitly rejecting his removal from office. The event aims to draw public attention to the ongoing ecclesiastical dispute. This protest follows a series of public interventions regarding the administrative decisions made by the Church leadership.
