Authorities intervene in unauthorized construction at Trozena village
The Limassol District Self-Government Organization (EOA) and the Department of Environment are taking steps to halt unauthorized construction at the abandoned settlement of Trozena. A foreign investor has initiated a large-scale development project in the area, which is classified as an environmentally sensitive Natura 2000 zone. EOA President Giannis Tsouloftas stated that instructions have been issued to ensure planning compliance and that an EOA team will visit the site within days to assess the situation and initiate legal action if necessary. Elena Stylianopoulou, Acting Director of the Department of Environment, confirmed that unauthorized work has begun and emphasized that the EOA must enforce the law. Both departments are advocating for a comprehensive master plan to govern any future development of the village. This approach aims to replace ad-hoc construction with a structured regulatory framework to ensure proper assessment of the impact on the protected site.
