Authorities intervene in unauthorized development in Trozena
The Limassol District Self-Government Organization (EOA) and the Department of Environment have confirmed that unauthorized construction works were carried out at the abandoned settlement of Trozena. The project, intended for redevelopment by a foreign investor, is located within an environmentally sensitive Natura 2000 area. Yiannis Tsouloftas, President of the EOA Limassol, stated that officials have been instructed to enforce urban planning regulations and halt the illegal activities. A technical team from the EOA is scheduled to inspect the site shortly to determine if legal action is required. Elena Stylianopoulou, Acting Director of the Department of Environment, emphasized that these works must be stopped immediately. Both authorities are advocating for the creation of a comprehensive master plan to ensure that any future redevelopment of the site is conducted legally and holistically. The investigation into the incident is ongoing as officials coordinate to maintain environmental and urban planning standards.
