Odysseas Michaelides comments on parliamentary presidency candidacy
Ten days before the upcoming parliamentary elections, Odysseas Michaelides, leader of the ALMA movement, addressed questions regarding the election of the new President of the House. During media appearances on RIK and OmegaLive, Michaelides explicitly ruled out his own candidacy, citing his commitment to leading his party. Regarding the presidency, he stated that he does not rule out supporting Stefanos Stefanou of AKEL, noting he does not consider him corrupt despite recent controversies. Conversely, Michaelides expressed opposition to supporting Annita Demetriou, Nikolas Papadopoulos, or Christos Christou for the position. He specifically praised Irene Charalambidou, describing her as an excellent candidate for the role, though he clarified that no official party decision has been made yet. These statements come amidst ongoing political friction following the Vasiliko scandal.
