Arrest made in Limassol child abduction case

On the morning of Wednesday, May 13, a 29-year-old Turkish national allegedly abducted his 23-month-old son from the child's mother in a village in the Limassol district. The mother, a 35-year-old British citizen under the 'Elpis' domestic violence protection program, reported that the father entered her home by force and attempted to drown her in a swimming pool during a struggle. A 53-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday night in Larnaca for allegedly aiding in the abduction. Police state the father entered the government-controlled areas through an uncontrolled point and later fled to the occupied territories, with the rental vehicle used in the crime discovered within the British Base areas. The Cypriot police have issued an arrest warrant for the father, and an official request for the child's return has been submitted to the Turkish Cypriot side through the Technical Committee on Crime. While the mother reported two perpetrators, investigation details regarding the involvement of the arrested suspect are ongoing.
