President Christodoulides announces reforms for National Guard personnel
President Nikos Christodoulides addressed the Cabinet at the Presidential Palace, emphasizing the prioritization of human resources to strengthen the deterrent power of the National Guard. He outlined significant measures for Contract Soldiers (SYOP), which were implemented since 2023. These reforms include the provision of a stable income, a 13th-month salary, and cost-of-living adjustments. The government decided to increase the age limit for service in the National Guard from 42 to 57 years. Furthermore, the entry age limit for new recruits has been raised from 27 to 35 years. A new career progression path allows SYOP members to transition into contract non-commissioned officers through written examinations. This pathway facilitates promotion up to the rank of Sergeant Major (Archilochias).
