Preparations for the 2026 parliamentary elections in Cyprus

Cyprus is preparing for the parliamentary elections scheduled for May 24, 2026. Ballot printing for 614,000 voters concludes this week, with delivery to local district officers expected by next Tuesday. On May 21, ballot boxes will be delivered to overseas polling stations, followed by local distribution to electoral districts on May 22. General Election Commissioner Elikkos Ilias expects to know the parliamentary composition two hours after polls close, with final results projected by 2:00 a.m. on Monday, May 25, and an official announcement at noon that same day at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre. Voters in different districts have varying numbers of preference crosses allowed: five for Nicosia, three for Limassol and Famagusta, two for Larnaca and Paphos, and one for Kyrenia. While optional, voters may also select a party without choosing individual candidates. Approximately 6,500 staff members will be involved, with an estimated total election cost of 6 million euros.
