Perjury allegation filed against former auditor-general Odysseas Michaelides
Andreas Hasapopoulos, a former associate of Alma party leader and ex-auditor-general Odysseas Michaelides, has filed a formal complaint with the police and the Legal Service alleging perjury. Hasapopoulos claims that Michaelides gave false testimony before the Supreme Constitutional Court in 2024 regarding his alleged involvement with a social media support group. Specifically, Hasapopoulos asserts that Michaelides regularly communicated via WhatsApp to provide text and content for the group, contradicting the former official's court statements. The Legal Service has referred the complaint to the police for evaluation to determine if a criminal investigation is warranted. In response, Michaelides has denied any involvement in managing the group and pointed to a public statement issued on November 19, 2025. Michaelides and his party, Alma, maintain that the allegations are motivated by revenge after Hasapopoulos was excluded from the party's parliamentary election ticket. Police have confirmed receipt of the complaint and stated that officers will interview Hasapopoulos to assess his claims before taking further action.
