Restoration of the Jami Kebir Mosque in Limassol nearing completion

The Jami Kebir Mosque, located in the Kastro district of Limassol, is entering the final stage of its long-term restoration project. Officials conducted a site visit on Wednesday to review the progress of the renovation, which covers both the main mosque structure and the adjacent prayer area. The project has faced significant technical and archaeological challenges that required specialized interventions to maintain the site's historical integrity. Multiple stakeholders are involved in the effort, including the Department of Antiquities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Turkish Cypriot representatives, and the government of Oman, which is providing partial funding. Authorities expect the work to be completed and the site handed over by early autumn, specifically between late September and early October. President Nikos Christodoulides is closely monitoring the development of this restoration. The project aims to preserve the site as both a place of worship and a cultural landmark reflecting Cyprus's diverse heritage.
