European commission presents energy saving measures at Nicosia council

On Wednesday, the European Commission presented a list of national practices aimed at reducing energy consumption and costs for households, businesses, and public authorities. The presentation was made by EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen, during an informal meeting of EU Energy Ministers in Nicosia. These measures follow the 'AccelerateEU' announcement and focus on protecting consumers and industry, improving energy efficiency, and promoting clean technology investments. According to the Commission, fully implementing these rules could reduce annual natural gas demand by 10 to 15 billion cubic meters. Additionally, the plan aims to cut oil consumption by 15 to 20 million tons of oil equivalent per year. These initiatives are intended to strengthen European energy resilience in the wake of the Middle East conflict. The measures are designed for both immediate cost reduction and long-term systemic stability.
