Cyprus President addresses the Hellenic Parliament in Athens
President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides addressed the Plenary Session of the Hellenic Parliament in Athens today. The visit was conducted following an official invitation from the President of the Greek Parliament, Nikitas Kaklamanis, issued during a meeting in Nicosia last March. The event is attended by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, government ministers, and political leaders. Both the Cypriot Presidency and the Greek side characterized the speech as a historic moment reflecting the institutional and strategic partnership between the two states. While some sources note this as the first time such an invitation has been formally accepted for a plenary address, others point out that the last instance of a Cypriot President speaking to the Greek Parliament was in 2010 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus. President Christodoulides is expected to discuss the Cyprus issue and regional developments before returning to Cyprus on Thursday evening.
