Abduction of a two-year-old child in Limassol district

On May 13, a 29-year-old man abducted his two-year-old son from a residence in Mandria, Limassol district. The 35-year-old mother, a British citizen, reported that the suspect and an accomplice arrived in a rented vehicle, pushed her into a swimming pool, and forcibly took the child. The mother had previously lived in the occupied territories with the suspect, a Turkish citizen, before moving to the government-controlled areas to escape domestic violence. Cypriot authorities had previously issued an arrest warrant for the father in November 2024 related to the case. Following the abduction, the child was reportedly taken to Famagusta in the occupied northern part of Cyprus. The suspect has since posted a video on social media confirming he is with the child. Police in Limassol have detained one individual in connection with the incident and are actively investigating the case.
