Two students involved in fatal fall from building in Ilioupoli

In the suburb of Ilioupoli, Greece, two teenage girls fell from the sixth floor of a residential building while holding hands. One of the students died from the fall, while the other remains in critical condition. Authorities have not determined the motive behind the incident. Following the tragedy, the Greek Ministry of Health emphasized its commitment to child mental health through the National Network of Mental Health Services (EDYPSY), reorganized under Law 5129/2024. The organization 'The Smile of the Child' reported that they handle approximately two cases of suicide or suicidal ideation among children every day in 2025. Between 2021 and 2025, mental health issues accounted for 40.9% of all requests for counseling at the organization. The public is encouraged to utilize the national SOS helpline 1056 for anonymous support available 24 hours a day.
