Students assist in extinguishing fire at Troodos National Forest Park

A forest fire broke out on Wednesday at 22:02 within the Troodos National Forest Park near the Cyprus Forestry College in Prodromos. Seventeen students from the college responded immediately to the incident, utilizing manual tools and personal fire extinguishers. Despite strong winds, their actions helped contain the fire before professional firefighting units arrived. The blaze was officially brought under control by 22:20, resulting in damage to low shrub vegetation. A fire engine and five forestry staff members participated in the final containment efforts. The Department of Forests praised the students for their professionalism and role in preventing the fire from spreading toward the park or the village of Prodromos. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the police.
