Coastal erosion mitigation works planned in Oroklini

Severe coastal erosion in the Oroklini area has caused significant damage to the beachfront, impacting local hotel businesses and public infrastructure. Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras and Oroklini Deputy Mayor Neophytos Fakontis have announced immediate restoration works in response to public and media pressure. The erosion has left hotels without sufficient beach space for guests to place umbrellas and sunbeds. Furthermore, the local coastal promenade has suffered structural damage, leading to the closure of certain sections for safety reasons due to hazardous ground shifting. Authorities have initiated studies to comprehensively address the damage to this infrastructure. The erosion is described as having reached critical, uncontrolled levels that pose risks to pedestrians. Restoration efforts aim to repair the promenade and mitigate the ongoing loss of shoreline terrain.
