Demolition of abandoned 14-story Pieris Estates building in Limassol begins
Demolition work has commenced on the 14-story abandoned building formerly owned by Pieris Estates, located on Omonia Avenue in Limassol. Construction of the building, originally envisioned as the 'Maritime Building', began between 1976 and 1977 but was never completed. The structure remained abandoned for nearly five decades, becoming a source of safety and public order concerns, including fire incidents and reports of squatters. The Limassol EOA (Provincial Administration Organization) issued the demolition permit several weeks ago following consultations regarding the building's height and proximity to the main road. The demolition methodology, which involves specialized heavy machinery imported from abroad, was approved by the EOA. While the site is currently being cleared, future development plans for the plot have not been officially detailed. Reports indicate that the property was recently sold to new owners who are overseeing the current clearing process.
