Customs department conducts enforcement operations on fuel and retail regulations

The Cyprus Customs Department conducted multiple enforcement operations in May 2026. On May 16, officers seized 200 litres of diesel from a tow truck at the Ayios Dhometios crossing point because the fuel was sourced from the occupied areas. The driver paid an €800 out-of-court settlement to recover the vehicle. Separately, on May 13 at Limassol port, officials inspected 55 vehicles and found two trucks using illegal coloured heating oil as fuel. The owners of these vehicles paid €2,000 each in settlements to release their trucks. Additionally, on May 6 and May 13, inspections of six kiosks in the Limassol district revealed four premises selling tobacco or alcohol without valid municipal licences. The operators of these kiosks paid €100 per licence in settlements to resolve the violations. The department maintains that refuelling commercial vehicles in the occupied areas and using heating oil for transport are strictly prohibited.
