Customs inspections in Limassol result in penalties for fuel and retail violations
On May 13, 2026, the Customs Department conducted 55 inspections of heavy goods vehicles at the Limassol port to detect illegal use of dyed heating oil. Two vehicles were found using the illicit fuel and were seized. The owners reclaimed their vehicles following an out-of-court settlement approved by the Customs Director, paying 2,000 euros each for tax liabilities and vehicle release fees. Additionally, on May 6 and May 13, 2026, inspections were carried out at kiosks across the Limassol district regarding the sale of tobacco and alcoholic beverages. Out of six premises inspected, four were found operating without valid municipal licenses. The managers of these establishments reached an out-of-court settlement with the Customs Department, agreeing to pay a fine of 100 euros for each missing permit. All settlements were formally accepted by the Director of the Customs Department.
