Eurostat data indicates high electricity costs for Cypriot households in 2025

According to Eurostat data for the second half of 2025, Cyprus ranks ninth among EU-27 member states for household electricity prices. For households consuming between 2,500 and 4,999 kilowatt-hours, the nominal electricity price in Cyprus was €0.2774 per kilowatt-hour, which is slightly below the EU-27 average of €0.2896. However, when adjusted for purchasing power, the cost rises to €0.3037 per kilowatt-hour. This figure exceeds the EU-27 purchasing power average of €0.2906, indicating a significant financial burden on local consumers. By comparison, Greece recorded a nominal price of €0.2378 and an adjusted purchasing power price of 0.2926. While Cyprus remains below the EU average in nominal terms, the real-world economic impact is greater due to lower purchasing power. Countries like Ireland, Germany, and Belgium reported higher nominal costs, whereas Hungary, Malta, and Bulgaria registered the lowest rates.
