Limassol court postpones Nicolaou case proceedings due to child abduction hearing
The Limassol court has postponed the private criminal prosecution case brought by the family of Thanasis Nicolaou against five former officials. The postponement was necessary to allow the court to address an urgent police detention request regarding a 53-year-old Turkish Cypriot suspect involved in a child abduction case that occurred on Wednesday. The defendants in the Nicolaou case include forensic pathologist Panikos Stavrianos, former Limassol police director Andreas Iatropoulos, former CID head Nikos Sofokleous, former deputy police chief Christakis Nathanael, and former Platres police station head Christakis Kapiliotis. This private prosecution concerns alleged failures in the original investigation into the death of national guardsman Thanasis Nicolaou. Procedural deadlines have been reset by the court for the Nicolaou case. A revised indictment must be submitted by May 25, with any further objections due by June 4. The court has scheduled closing arguments to take place on June 11.
