Upgraded surveillance measures along the Green Line in Cyprus
Cypriot authorities have reported an upgrade in surveillance systems along the buffer zone over the past three years. The National Guard and police currently employ modern audiovisual equipment and cameras to monitor the area on a 24-hour basis. Coordination is maintained through constant communication with UNFICYP liaisons to address security incidents. Previous physical barriers, such as barbed wire, have been largely removed, except in areas where terrain prevents this. Certain regions, specifically Pyla and Avlona, present unique administrative or geographical challenges that complicate full monitoring. Pyla remains under UN control without formal checkpoints, while parts of Avlona remain difficult to monitor due to their morphology. Officials stated that security protocols are active and adaptable, though specific tactical details remain undisclosed. The Ministry of Defense continues to lead these operational efforts to ensure effective border control.
