Elderly man injured during student protest in Belgrade
A 90-year-old man was injured in Belgrade after being struck by a vehicle during a student demonstration near the Faculty of Law. The incident occurred as students were holding a 16-minute silence to commemorate victims of the November 1, 2024, Novi Sad railway station tragedy. Reports indicate that a driver attempted to drive through the blockade, leading to a confrontation where the driver allegedly assaulted a student before reversing the vehicle and hitting the elderly man. The injured man was transported to the Emergency Center with a thigh fracture. Police intervened following the altercation and arrested the driver. While student groups claim the act was an unprovoked escalation during a peaceful gathering, the event highlights ongoing tensions related to protests that have occurred since the Novi Sad disaster. Previous similar incidents have been reported, including a severe injury to a student in January 2025 during an intersection blockade.
