International operation dismantles criminal network selling counterfeit supplements

On May 12, law enforcement agencies from 15 countries, including Cyprus, conducted a coordinated operation to dismantle a criminal group involved in selling unauthorized dietary supplements and counterfeit medications. According to Eurojust, the group generated approximately 240 million euros in illegal proceeds since 2019. The criminals utilized a vast network of hundreds of websites and social media profiles to market over 400 different products. They often misled victims by misusing the names and images of celebrities and fake doctors to claim the products could cure serious illnesses. The coordinated action resulted in the arrest of core group members and the seizure of significant quantities of stock. Support for the investigation was provided by Eurojust and Europol, ensuring cross-border cooperation. Cyprus participated in the operation through the Attorney General's Office and the Cyprus Police. The criminal organization had reportedly established specific training protocols for their associates to create deceptive social media accounts.
