Expansion of waste management and recycling infrastructure in Cyprus
The Cyprus Department of Environment is establishing two new Repair and Reuse Centers in the Nicosia and Limassol districts under the LIFE IP CYzero WASTE project. On March 5, 2026, the Cabinet approved the allocation of a 3,400 square meter plot in Idali for the Nicosia facility, while the Limassol facility will be located in the Agios Spyridonas parish. Currently, 26 Green Points operate across the country, collecting over 17.3 million kilograms of waste annually. Data provided by Minister of Agriculture Maria Panayiotou to MP Nikos Georgiou shows that Nicosia leads in collection volume at approximately 5.08 million kilograms per year. The Ministry plans to complete four additional Green Points in the Famagusta, Nicosia, and Larnaca districts by the end of 2026. Furthermore, collaboration with local authorities aims to establish six more Green Points in Nicosia and Limassol to optimize waste management. These infrastructure expansions are part of the Municipal Waste Management Plan for 2022-2028.
