Cyprus government transfers Larnaca port and marina development to Port Authority
Following a meeting at the Presidential Palace on May 15, 2026, President Nikos Christodoulides and local stakeholders decided that the Cyprus Ports Authority (CPA) will take over the complete management and development of the Larnaca port and marina. The meeting included the Mayor of Larnaca Andreas Vyras, the President of the Larnaca Chamber of Commerce (EVEL) Nakis Antoniou, and the President of the Larnaca District Self-Government Organization (EOAL) Aggelos Chatzicharalampous. The government finalized plans to upgrade the port for tourism and commercial cargo while ensuring equipment is modernized to address public health concerns regarding industrial noise and dust. The marina will be expanded to accommodate 200 additional vessels. Additionally, 50,000 square meters of land will be designated for urban use, fulfilling local community requests and unifying the city's coastline. The CPA is mandated to present a detailed roadmap for the implementation of these projects by June 30. This decision resolves ongoing tensions between the local government and the Ministry of Transport regarding development timelines and land utilization.
