Ministry of Agriculture launches new website for water management in Cyprus
The Cypriot Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment has launched a new official website dedicated to water management. The platform serves as a central hub for information regarding water scarcity, climate change challenges, and ongoing water infrastructure projects. Senior Executive Engineer of the Water Development Department, Gianna Oikonomidou, noted that the site provides practical tips for household water conservation. Regarding current water reserves, the department reported that dam occupancy has increased to 41%, compared to 9% at the beginning of the year. Despite this improvement, officials emphasized that the risk of water shortages remains, particularly with higher consumption levels expected during the upcoming summer season. The Water Development Department is currently evaluating various water allocation scenarios to manage future supply needs. Minister Maria Panagiotou presented the initiative as part of broader measures to address national water sufficiency and public transparency.
