DIKO party questions ALMA regarding criminal investigations against Odysseas Michaelides
The Democratic Party (DIKO) in Cyprus has publicly questioned the ALMA organization concerning two pending criminal investigations against Odysseas Michaelides. The allegations involve potential perjury and the Pentakomo waste management facility scandal, which reportedly cost taxpayers over 40 million euros. Natasa Ioannou, a DIKO parliamentary candidate for Paphos, issued a statement calling on ALMA to clarify its stance on these legal matters. The party is demanding to know if ALMA will support a full investigation or seek to cover up the allegations. Additionally, DIKO questioned whether ALMA would ask Michaelides to step down temporarily, citing the group's previous decision to expel a member, Mr. Papadakis, due to a pending criminal case. DIKO claims that ALMA presents itself as a champion of transparency and anti-corruption, and therefore must apply these standards to everyone. The organization has yet to provide a formal response to these inquiries. The political tension highlights the ongoing scrutiny of public officials in Cyprus.
