Cyprus records unusually high rainfall in May

As of May 15, meteorological data indicates that Cyprus has experienced rainfall reaching 163% of the seasonal norm for the month. The average precipitation across free areas is 31.9 millimetres, significantly higher than the usual 19.6 millimetres. Paphos Airport recorded the highest excess at 385% of its monthly norm, followed by Limassol new port at 357%, Polis at 356%, and Stavros tis Psokas at 340%. In absolute terms, Stavros tis Psokas received the most rainfall at 92.4 mm, while Xylotymbou recorded the lowest at 7.1 mm. Since October 1, the cumulative rainfall has reached 555 mm, representing 114% of the long-term seasonal average of 453.2 mm. Nearly all regions have surpassed their seasonal averages, with the exception of Lythrodontas, which remains at 97%. Additionally, the Ministry of Agriculture has launched a new website to provide public information regarding water scarcity and climate challenges.
