Greek singer Maria Farantouri receives medal of honor from Cyprus

On Thursday evening, the Republic of Cyprus awarded the Medal of Outstanding Contribution to Greek singer Maria Farantouri. The ceremony took place at the Pallas Theatre in Nicosia during a concert performed by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, which was dedicated to the works of composer Mikis Theodorakis. The award was presented by the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athena Michaelides, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides. Minister Michaelides stated that the honor reflects the gratitude of the state and the Cypriot people for Farantouri’s extensive artistic career. The official citation highlighted the singer's contributions to the promotion of freedom, democracy, justice, and peace through her musical work. The event served both as a cultural tribute to Mikis Theodorakis and a formal recognition of Farantouri’s long-standing connection to Cyprus.
