Authorities investigate child neglect case in Peristeri

Authorities have intervened in a case involving six children, aged 3 to 11, discovered living in unsanitary conditions at a residence on Kipoupoleos Street in Peristeri. Reports indicate that the children were malnourished, lacked basic hygiene, and were not enrolled in school. Witnesses described the children as unkempt and physically neglected. The children are currently undergoing medical evaluations at the Aglaia Kyriakou Children's Hospital, and social services are seeking alternative accommodation. Although initial reports mentioned arrests, subsequent information suggests the parents were released after providing statements citing severe financial hardship. A similar intervention regarding the custody of these children occurred in 2021 under a prosecutor's order, but custody was later restored to the parents following a period of monitoring. The mother, currently pregnant with her seventh child, claims these conditions were not a permanent way of life for the family.
