Authorities investigate child neglect case in Peristeri
Greek authorities are investigating a case of severe child neglect involving six children, aged 3 to 11, discovered in a small residence on Kipoupoleos Street in Peristeri. Police were alerted by a report and found the children living in unsanitary conditions, reportedly malnourished and suffering from poor hygiene. Witnesses described the children as neglected, noting that their appearance made it difficult to distinguish their genders. The parents cited severe financial hardship and lack of employment as the reasons for their situation. The children have been transferred to the Aglaia Kyriakou Children's Hospital for medical examinations, while authorities seek alternative housing. Records indicate that a prosecutor had previously removed the children from the parents' custody in 2021, though custody was restored following a period of state monitoring. The parents have been released pending further investigation.
