Ministry of Energy announces third phase of home energy efficiency scheme
The Cypriot Ministry of Energy, Commerce, and Industry, led by Minister Michalis Damianou, announced that the third cycle of the 'Save-Upgrade' scheme will open for applications in September. With a budget of 20 million euros, the program brings total funding for home energy upgrades under the THALIA program to 85 million euros. Eligible applicants must own residential properties built before January 1, 2008, and hold an Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) residential account. Grants of up to 32,000 euros are available for upgrades including insulation, window replacement, heating/cooling systems, and solar power installations. Vulnerable households, mountain residents, and refugees living in dedicated settlements are eligible for an additional 20 percent support. To improve efficiency, the Ministry has introduced corrective measures following payment processing delays during the previous cycle. These measures include a new risk-based assessment process for applications, developed in coordination with the European Commission. The scheme aims to reduce primary energy consumption by at least 60 percent.
