European Sailing Championship begins in Kastela, Croatia

The European Sailing Championship is scheduled to take place in Kastela, Croatia, from May 17 to May 22. The event will feature 344 athletes representing 53 countries, with competitions held in the ILCA 7 and ILCA 6 classes. Among the participants is Pavlos Kontides, who recently finished first at the Open Croatian Sailing Championship and placed 8th at the Hyeres Grand Slam. Other notable entrants in the ILCA 7 category include Tonci Stipanovic, Filip Jurisic, Philipp Buhl, and Jonatan Vadnai, along with non-European sailors like Stefano Peschiera, George Gautrey, and Thomas Saunders. Cyprus will be represented by Pavlos Kontides and Aimilios Boeros in the ILCA 7 class, Anatoly Zubovsky in the ILCA 6 class, and Marilena Makri in the women's ILCA 6 event. The competition format consists of six qualifying races held from Sunday through Tuesday, followed by six final races concluding on Friday to determine the overall rankings.
