Tensions rise in Greek parliament over immunity waiver for Zoi Konstantopoulou
A heated debate erupted in the Greek Parliament following the Ethics Committee's positive recommendation to waive the parliamentary immunity of Plefsi Eleftherias leader Zoi Konstantopoulou. Konstantopoulou accused New Democracy deputies of abusive behavior, including verbal threats and physical intimidation during committee proceedings. In response, New Democracy parliamentary representative Dimitris Markopoulos rejected the allegations, accusing her of mistreating her own staff in the past. Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis further escalated the conflict by labeling her behavior as unacceptable and referencing a labor dispute involving a former party employee. Konstantopoulou claims that the immunity waiver requests, initiated by Justice Minister Floridis and members of the judiciary, are politically motivated attempts to silence her. She alleges that four specific lawsuits against her are orchestrated, while noting that her own legal complaints remain unaddressed. The session concluded with significant verbal confrontations between Konstantopoulou and government officials.
