Turkey initiates development of a naval version of the Hurjet aircraft
Turkey has officially launched a program to develop a naval variant of the domestically produced Hurjet supersonic trainer and light attack aircraft. According to reports from TRT Haber, the project aims to adapt the airframe for operations on maritime platforms, specifically aircraft carriers or ships with short runways. Key modifications include a reinforced landing gear system, a modified airframe designed to absorb impact stresses, and the integration of a tailhook for arrested landings. The engineering process also focuses on 'navalization' to increase resistance to high humidity, salinity, and corrosion. This includes upgrading the engine, electronic systems, and structural materials to withstand maritime environments. The Hurjet is currently being marketed for export, with initial deliveries mentioned in the context of an agreement with Spain. The project is aligned with Turkey's long-term maritime strategic objectives.
