International scientific conference on poet Odysseus Elytis to be held in Cyprus

The Department of Modern Culture of the Deputy Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with the University of Cyprus and the Society of Literature and Criticism, is organizing an international scientific conference dedicated to Nobel laureate poet Odysseus Elytis. The event is scheduled to take place from May 29 to May 31, 2026, at the ceremonial hall of the University of Cyprus. This conference is part of the cultural program for the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026 and is held under the auspices of the Greek Embassy. The opening speech will be delivered by translator David Connolly. Following the lecture, a musical and lyrical performance titled "Akoma mia fora" (One more time) will be presented by Ioulita Iliopoulou, Theodora Baka, Alexandra Papastefanou, and composer Giorgos Kouroupos. The program explores themes in Elytis's work, including nature, language, and human values through his poetry and Kouroupos's musical compositions. The conference proceedings will be open to the general public.
