Rising airline ticket prices for travel to and from Cyprus
Airline ticket prices to and from Cyprus have significantly increased this summer season due to multiple factors. Key drivers include a fuel shortage stemming from the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, reduced flight frequency on certain routes, and high travel demand. Reports indicate price hikes of up to 50%, or between 100 and 120 euros, for some destinations in Greece. The Deputy Ministry of Tourism noted an average global increase of 88 euros for international destinations. The International Air Transport Association has confirmed that these price increases are unavoidable and will be passed on to passengers. Charis Papacharalambous, president of the Association of Cyprus Travel and Tourism Agents, attributed the situation to basic supply and demand dynamics. While European average price increases are estimated at 2% to 5%, Cyprus has experienced varying impacts depending on specific travel dates and hub connections like Athens. Despite these costs, officials report that demand remains close to record-breaking levels from the previous year.
