Recent law enforcement actions in Nicosia district
Police in Nicosia have made several arrests related to separate incidents of robbery and human smuggling. Regarding robbery investigations, a 21-year-old was arrested in connection with a May 9, 2026, incident, joining a 32-year-old suspect already in custody since May 13, 2026, who also faces charges for a July 25, 2025, robbery. Additionally, a 20-year-old was arrested in relation to the earlier case. In a separate operation on May 15, 2026, a 56-year-old man was arrested for smuggling four third-country nationals, including two minors, from occupied territories into the Republic of Cyprus. During the interception near Alampra, the suspect's vehicle collided with a patrol car, and police reportedly fired a warning shot to secure the arrest. The 56-year-old was remanded for six days by the Nicosia District Court, while the passengers were transferred to the Kokkinotrimithia hospitality center. Investigations into all cases are ongoing by Nicosia police.
