Interior Minister addresses launch of Famagusta displaced youth organization

On Friday, Cypriot Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou attended an event in Larnaca to mark the establishment of the youth branch of the Union of Displaced Communities of Famagusta (EEKA). Ioannou emphasized that the new organization gives a voice to the younger generation who did not experience the 1974 events but carry the collective memory of their families. He described Famagusta as a significant symbol of culture and justice for the Greek Cypriot community. The Minister reiterated the government's commitment to resuming negotiations for a comprehensive and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue. These efforts are based on existing United Nations resolutions and an agreed-upon negotiation framework. Ioannou highlighted that the participation of youth is crucial for maintaining the goal of reunification, the protection of human rights, and the restoration of fundamental freedoms for all legal residents. He stressed that preserving these memories is directly linked to the ongoing effort to reach a settlement.
