Customs department operations at Green Line crossings

On May 16, 2026, at the Agios Dometios crossing, customs officers confiscated 200 liters of fuel from a truck driver who admitted to purchasing it in the occupied areas. The driver paid an €800 out-of-court settlement, after which his vehicle was returned. On May 17, 2026, at the Ledra Street crossing, a Romanian national was arrested for attempting to transport untaxed tobacco. Authorities seized five cartons of 200 cigarettes each and 2.75 kilograms of rolling tobacco, along with her vehicle. The woman, noted for previous involvement in similar cases, was released after paying a €1,270 settlement. The Customs Department reiterated that transporting additional fuel from the occupied areas is prohibited for both commercial and private vehicles. These actions were conducted as part of regular enforcement of the Green Line Regulation.
