Train and bus collision in Bangkok results in casualties
On Saturday, May 16, a collision occurred between a commercial train and a public bus at a busy railway crossing in central Bangkok. The impact triggered a fire that engulfed the bus and several nearby vehicles including cars and motorcycles. Local authorities confirmed that at least eight people died in the incident. Reports regarding the number of injured vary between 25 and 35 individuals. Rescue teams and firefighters were deployed to extinguish the blaze and extract victims from the wreckage. Bangkok police chief Uruporn Khunedejrumrit stated that the fire has been brought under control and investigation efforts are ongoing. Thai Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has ordered a full inquiry into the cause of the accident. The crossing was temporarily evacuated to facilitate emergency operations.
